How to export a clean trial balance from Tally, Zoho Books or QuickBooks

The one file most financial analysis needs — and the settings that make it usable.

Almost every financial analysis starts with a trial balance: every ledger with its debit or credit balance at a date. Bebaak's Data Bridge needs only this file to run a Score, and it is the starting point for CMA, budgets and due diligence.

What a good trial balance looks like

  • One row per ledger (not just groups), with ledger name and group or account type.
  • Closing debit and credit balances for the period end.
  • Total debits equal total credits.
  • The period covered is clear (for example, 1 April to 30 September).

Tally (TallyPrime / ERP 9)

Open Display More Reports → Trial Balance, set the period, switch to detailed view (ledger-wise), and export to Excel. Keep the group column so accounts can be classified.

Zoho Books

Go to Reports → Accountant → Trial Balance, choose the date range and export as XLSX or CSV.

QuickBooks Online

Go to Reports → Trial Balance, set the period, and export to Excel.

Common problems

  • Exporting group totals only: analysis then cannot tell cash from bank, or debtors from advances.
  • Opening balance differences: fix them before exporting.
  • Suspense balances: clear or explain them.
You can also download the Bebaak trial balance template from Resources → Templates and paste your balances into it.
