How to do the monthly GST set-off and close the month
For each GSTIN: output tax vs input credit vs GSTR-2B, the set-off in the legal order (Section 49 / 49A and Rule 88A), the set-off journal, the cash challan amount, then file and lock the month.
Who can do this: Admins and Accountants. Viewers can open it but not change anything.
Steps
Step by step
- Open GST → Set-off & closing and pick the GSTIN and month.
- Check the three columns — output tax, credit in books, credit in GSTR-2B — and clear differences first.
- Review the set-off Bebaak proposes (IGST credit first, then CGST and SGST in the proportion that saves cash; CGST and SGST never cross).
- Post the set-off journal and note the cash payable per head for the challan.
- After you file GSTR-3B on the portal, mark it filed and lock the month.
Tips
- Bebaak does not file on the GST portal — you (or your CA) file; Bebaak prepares and records.
- Interest is paid in cash, never from credit.
