How to reconcile a bank account

Match each bank statement line to a payment, receipt or journal in the books — or categorise it — so the books agree with the bank.

Who can do this: Admins and Accountants. Viewers can open it but not change anything.

Steps

Step by step

  1. Banking → Open the account.
  2. Bring in statement lines with Import statement (CSV/Excel) or add one with Add transaction.
  3. For each Unmatched line, click Match. Bebaak looks for payments, receipts and journals with the same amount and date range.
  4. Tick the right entry and click Match. The line shows Reconciled.
  5. No match? Click Categorise: choose Customer receipt, Vendor payment or Other, pick the party or account, and click Save & reconcile — Bebaak creates the entry.
  6. Check the top: Statement balance, Balance in books and Difference. Difference should be explained only by opening balances and unmatched lines.
FAQs

Questions

Why is there a difference after matching everything?
Usually the opening balance in the books differs from the bank on your start date, or a cheque is still in transit.

Tips

  • Matched something wrongly? Click Un-match on the line.
